that we all forgot how this stuff is supposed to work.

For the record, the AG is supposed to be independant of the entire Executive branch, almost like an unofficial Super Lawyer on a par with the SCOTUS.

Ideally, that is how it is supposed to be, right?

That is EXACTLY how it is supposed to work. Obama is a constitutional scholar. HE KNOWS how it is supposed to work. He has always said that Americans have lost faith in their government, and he wants to restore it. So how does a scenario by which he goes on the TeeVee in a prime time broadcast to say everything we wnat to hear, and that he is "directing" HIS AG to investigate and prosecute war crimes help? In that scenario, he would be operating from the Unitary Executive fallicy. He legaly can't "Direct" the AG to do ANYTHING. So in order to not give the Reich Wing any more BS Ammo than they already manufacture, he sticks to his role of being the "politician" walking the line in the middle. "We have to look forward", begrugingly releasing UNREDACTED smoking gun memos that light the whole thing up. Soon we will be hearing the REAL conservatives talking about how the AG has no choice but to prosecute.

Barack is all over this shit. The only difference is he is going to do it right.

As to the seperation of POTUS from the AG, I always felt a little wierd that Bobby was Jack's AG. That wasn't right.

it should have ended there, before the Ashcroft/Gonzo/Murakskey stooges threw pies at the constitution and put there fingers in Lady Justices eye.

I too suspect that Obama is WAAAAAYYYYYYYY smarter than even we give him credit for.

Having a smart president who we voted for sure kicks ass, huh!
