Her vulgar characterization of Hillary Clinton makes her - - just another vulgar voice on radio.  Perhaps she should consider a career in wrestling.

    •  To be fair ..... Randi made that comment (10+ / 0-)

at a private event, not on the radio. Somebody recorded her and published the video. She'd never say anything like that on the radio.

It was a rant. She was pissed at Hillary for the 3am ad...and you know what? So was I.

When you are a radio personality and are on stage, it is unlikely that you will not have your comments noticed.  And, yeah, it's a free country - free for people who heard her rant to comment on it.

If someone from the media had said about Obama that has was a "Fucking Uncle Tom" - even if they had reason to be angry (whatever that is) - it would have been totally unacceptable.

Calling Hillary Clinton a "Fucking Whore" was much worse.  And it's pathetic that Rhodes has so internalized patriarchal oppression that she becomes a foot soldier herself.

I see by the recs that others think it O.K. to call Clinton a "Fucking Whore", too.  Still can't get over it, can you?

everybody is a 'fucking something or other.' And I'm a prude. She was doing late night comedy club shtick. Give it a rest!

            A "Fucking Uncle Tom" is O.K. -
Provided it is done at a late-night comedy club -
And the person claims to be a progressive?

            •  Your metaphor is twisted. (0+ / 0-)

Randi called Hillary a whore because Hillary was staying in the primary LONG AFTER she knew it was mathematically impossible for her to win.

Hillary stayed in the race because she needed the money, period. She was in debt. She was willing to trash Obama for the money.

See the metaphor? Hillary was selling out her own party for the cash. Prostitutes demean the value of women for the cash. Sure, prostitution is more complicated than that, but you get the point.

Calling Obama "Uncle Tom" just makes no sense. Randi wasn't lashing out nonsensically, she had a valid point that she expressed vulgarly.

It's clear that many of y'all are unable to see how completely inappropriate this was.  Sure she is free to say anything, but civil people do not embrace someone like this.

                •  It's not a rationalization, it's what she said. (0+ / 0-)

Listen to the moment; she makes it VERY clear that this is her point. I agree it's vulgar, but it's still a valid point. I've listened to Randi since the day Air America started, and I refuse to condemn her for a private moment where she goes "over the top."

Who among us haven't said or thought vulgar things in passionate anger?  It seems to me you've judged Randi solely on your interpretation of ONE COMMENT; a comment taken not just out of context; but with no context at all!

There was a time when she was the sole progressive voice I could find anywhere in the media. That's saying something since I lived in Vermont, Bernie was my congressman and I worked for Howard Dean. Television, radio, print; Randi was it.

Back in 2004/05, Randi was the ONLY person who spoke the truth about the Iraq war and torture and exposed the crimes of the Bush villians. She railed against the Patriot act BEFORE it was even voted on -- that takes courage. She deserves loyalty, not just because she's a progressive veteran, but because she earned it the hard way.

But she stepped WAY over the line.  It's one thing for you or I to say something in a moment of pique, another for a person who is a radio personality to do so.  Remember, she was not a a table with a few friends - she was on stage.  I am saddened that so many people defended her actions then - and continue to do so now.

If somebody had called Obama a "N-----" they wouldn't be getting one ounce of attention from Kossacks.  Why is it O.K. to call a woman a "Whore" - any woman - Clinton, Pelosi, Rice, or Palin?  Are the two terms roughly equal?  Don't they seek to demean by linking to violence and oppression?

I am stunned that anyone would defend Rhodes -
                    Certainly any progressive.

        It was a rant.

That's exactly the problem. Rants are not a good thing. Rants are not substantive comment. Rants are stupid.

Randi Rhodes is an egomaniacal bore.

    •  yeah i am never listening to her ever (0+ / 0-)

I was such a big fan but I had stopped listening to her before the rant because I stopped listening to radio a lot and now I would never listen to her again.

Sorry I have to run to the Senate floor to abolish torture.
