  •  Why are you upset about the McCain thing? (5+ / 0-)

That "Hardball Award" thing is not new.  And he generally names people who do things like take political risk or buck their party.  Yes, he named McCain -- but did you miss the discussion of why?  It was definitely not even close to "McCain's an all around great guy." It was because McCain, being the victim of torture, has always taken a position against torture, even when it was not popular with his party.  That's what Matthews was praising.  He showed a clip from his show when McCain was running for Pres where McCain said no torture, period.  He said that whereever you stood on investigations and/or prosecution, he thought you could admire McCain's stance on torture.  What was so outrageous about that?

Oh, and he said that McCain should have been President -- in the year 2000.  A definite dig against Bush.

Where were you during the Detainee Treatment Act debate?
Missed it along with Matthews, obviously...

Among other things, the DTA contains provisions that (1) require Department of Defense (DoD) personnel to employ United States Army Field Manual guidelines while interrogating detainees, and (2) prohibit the cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment of persons under the detention, custody, or control of the United States Government. These provisions of the DTA, which were first introduced by Senator John McCain, have popularly been referred to as the McCain Amendment.

...anyone who followed it knows that he didn't bother to include provisions regarding those in our custody who we transfer to our fellow torturing friends for torturing.

          Love loopholes, John. Love loopholes...
