    he's a fine man and all, but he's not from FL or even the US. The idea is not to have an atheist deity to honor, but to have the state refrain from inserting itself in religious matters in the first place. Separation of church and state means freedom from religion along with freedom of religion.  It ain't the business of the state to have any religious opinion.

      my dead kennedy's t-shirt that says "freedom from religion" with Jesus hanging on a cross made of dollars when I visiting my parents who migrated to Florida from NYC (along with the rest of their friends who moved from the bronx to queens) ... it was almost as big a hit down there as my post-feminism t-shirt which said "keep your bra and burn your brains." ... ah, but that was back when I was a youngling, not a middle-aged old lady.

      We agree completely, I thought that was clear from my comment on the separation of church and state and amendments to the constitution. :)
