parents give the OK for spanking.  This "war against spanking" hasn't improved school discipline.  Quite the opposite.

There is no value to an adult striking a child. Period.  I was one of nine kids - we were never struck by anyone growing up.  All college graduates.  All, a number of us in education, working as professionals.  I have raised my kids without striking them.  I will put my kids up against any others as far as respectfulness and decency.

I've worked with all types of children and have never once needed to resort to violence to achieve good behavior.

I haven't heard of anyone using corporal punishment in years and it doesn't seem to be doing our students any favors. Nowadays they just call the cops and let the cops deal with the little monsters. Don't think they don't fight back either. Which is better- an occasional paddle/ ruler slap/ chalkboard eraser or getting forcefully handcuffed in a classroom by two large cops who may use a club on you or taser you if they think you are a threat? OR if you do it often enough then you get sent to the reject school where they have rampant problems with older kids raping and molesting the younger ones in typical jailhouse fashion. It seems to me that a ruler slap across your hand is a lot less of disruption to the learning process. I guess over medicating your child instead of teaching it discipline is the way to go these days. It used to take a village to raise a child, I guess we don't trust people enough nowadays to let that happen. If parents aren't going to raise their kids right so there is no need for corporal punishment or kiddie jails, who is left to do it?
