    Portuguese Sephardic Jew family who immigrated from Portugal to the US in the 1800s, some consider him the first Hispanic supreme court justice but it all depends on the definition of the term Hispanic.

      He had ancestors who were practicing Jews in Colonial America, at least one of whom fought in the Continental Army.
