When we were there it was very rainy. Also there were a lot of rushing streams at least in May and June.. It looks high but it can be climbed in about 10-15 minutes from the village below (beside a big stream). Queribus was a much longer trek. The Spanish side of the Pyrenees is much much drier.

Did my hiking at Gavarnie and a coupla other Pyrennées locations: Belle what? ski area, too socked in with fog to walk around much - real danger of getting lost.  But then, it lifted and a Lammergeier riding the thermals came up right in front of me - oh so close!  And a canyon not far from Montsegur.  I just happened upon it on the way to a nearby canyon looking for Choughs (found) and Wallcreepers (not found.)  Actually, same thing happened with Stonehenge on a different trip.  Odd the things you come upon sometimes when you're not looking for them.

It was raining much of the time.  Raging torrents of streams.  Actually, now that I think about it, the Loire flooded pretty seriously that year, too.  Lot of roads were closed.  Great for shorebirds.
