Several points of note in that piece, the key one being that, before December 2001, Mitchell was probably putting together a torture program for the CIA’s CounterTerrorism Center, based on the Al Qaeda documents and the military’s SERE program (which is designed to prepare American military personnel to endure captivity).

Is there any chance that the CIA torture manuals written in the '60s and used by Reagan in the '80s were also used in putting together this program?

I wrote about those manuals a couple weeks ago and I noticed similarities, like, it says if a captive is afraid of insects you should put them in a room with lots of insects... which is exactly what was done to Zubaydah.
