      I'm interested in justice AND not accepting the state as having a legitimate role as inflicter of vengeance.

      It's cheaper to lock them away and let them rot, staring at the wall, considering the fact that we concluded they were the worst kind of criminals.

      They might even come to accept that, and to repent (not that THAT would justify freeing them).
