out a number of white students who harassed African Americans.  His writings and actions were quite remarkable.

They tortured people to get false confessions to fraudulently justify our invading Iraq.

he actively campaigned against voting rights for Blacks. and for an end to reconstruction.

There are worse people in the antebellum south, but many much better.

prepared to send the slaves back to Africa to preserve the Union -- what's your point?  You view things from a 21st century perspective, failing to place these issues in historical context.  You barely scratch the surface of the period.

I can see justification for Lincoln to think that sending the slaves back to africa was a good idea. However, there is no such reason to deny voting rights to Freedmen, asides from the rhetoric spouted by the Aristocracy prewar.

You do comprehend the ramifications of sending the slaves back to Africa on the Southern economy do you not?  Do you actually believe that idea would have thwarted a civil war?

and slave owners compensated, it might have. I doubt they would have agreed to it, however. Problems between north and south were not limited to slavery, but I would think most would have been solved with compromise rather then warfare.
