    who observed, not long after the signing of the surrender at Appomattox, that "our former enemies are now our fellow citizens again." Seems to me that's the only reasonable attitude to take--and if either of those men could take it, given what they had both gone through during that war, what right do we have, more than a century later, to say them nay?
