    Maine to the East,
    Canada up North,
    And Massachusetts below.

    The time is now.

I predict the Governor will let it become law without his signature.

And that's fine by me.  Getting it to be law is what matters.

Blue Hampshire. Defeating Republicans since 2006.

    •  Totally agree (4+ / 0-)

Either that or he'll sign it, as he can use the amendment as "cover", since it protects religious organizations.  He can play the political game and just say that while he still has some misgivings, the amendment offers necessary religious protections... and agree to sign it.

But just letting it go into law without signature seems a very real possibility.

I will predict this... he will not veto it.  While I believe he's wrong on same-sex marriage, I do believe the man to be a good person with a soul.  If this were a state in which he knew his veto would get overridden, I think he'd veto it and just let the legislature do the heavy lifting.  But in NH, no way can the votes be mustered to override... and I just don't believe he has the heart of stone to veto this legislation.  Given his earlier statements against gay marriage, I doubt he'll make the wonderful change-of-heart statements Baldacci made, but he'll let it ride through... either without signature, or using the amendment as cover to sign.  (Without signature is easier, but does he want this hanging over his head for the next week?  I dunno.  We'll see.)  A veto would shock and sadden me.
