  •  So don't prevent it so you can treat it? (0+ / 0-)

That's really really ridiculous. Treatments don't work for all, have great distribution problems, and frequently lose efficacy.

DDT use against malaria is not harmful. It's the way it was used wholesale especially in agriculture.

    •  That depends: (0+ / 0-)

Can Artimesia actually prevent malaria? Or does it just treat it?

But regarding DDT -- this is a case of the cure being worse than the disease. DDT does not break down like most chemicals, meaning that the higher up the food chain it moves, the more concentrated it gets, meaning that the more lethal it gets. And it would have gotten to the point where the whole human race would have been endangered had we not stopped using it as a lawn pesticide. We have to find better ways of preventing malaria than DDT -- it's a matter of risk management -- don't risk more than you can afford to lose.

It's not likely to get in the food chain with this type of use.

It was agricultural use that caused the big damage and it was well to have banned it for all agricultural uses.
