  •  Eric Cantor should found his own new party (6+ / 0-)

    A party that's ACTUALLY center-right.

I think it may actually happen, but not with Eric Cantor as leader.

    •  What "principled leadership?" (4+ / 0-)

if the party elite want to abandon principled leadership

I thought the Republicans abandoned principled leadership 4 decades or more ago.

      to protect life,

By engaging in unnecessary wars to which it gives a lesser priority to than an elitist tax cut; and pushing people's buttons to make it impossible for a conscientious stance on the death penalty?

      support traditional marriage

I don't know of a politician who objects to people getting married traditionally. The biggest danger to traditional marriage is the homophobes making it a scapegoat for their prejudices.

while going along with deficit exploding spending,

If Huckabee had a problem with that, he would have left in protest when the Reagan-Kemp-Roth tax cuts were passed.

(snip) and failing to police corruption

Policing Corruption will get you denounced by the Washington Insiders as "criminalizing policy differences" who can't see the need for "a time of reflection and not retribution." If Huckabee truly wanted to police corruption, he'd be singing the praises of Glen Greenwald.

It's quite clear that the only "rule of law" these people care about is one that says you can't lie about your sex life. -Digby

Why, yes, they did....about five minutes after JFK was sworn in. From there we go to the Southern Strategy....and we all know how that turned out.

        it tastes like burning...

Does that mean we can expect all the divorced GOP leaders to wear hair shirts and shout "Mea Culpa" at the next teabag event?

Being a majority party means very little if you can't work the system to push your agenda forward.
