    referring to the football field.

the only bridge being the words Buffalo and New York (not to mention that no one would write a Buffalo Bills diary and calin their comeback had anything to do with New York State)

They would if it involved the Bills beating the Jets, (who are still technically from New York).  Which is what I said.  And when did the standard change to "no one would really say" as opposed to "I'm not technically telling a lie"?

Dana's relied entirely upon the prejudices and assumptions of the reader to supply the disconnect.

No, Dana relied on the fact that he's a FPer, and he relied on the context of recent allegation of Sen. Edwards misusing campaign funds as hush-hush money.  Oh, and he relied on a deliberate effort to summarize the linked story in a vague enough way that it would be misunderstood by the reader.

Your example is not at all apropos, for there's no equivalence in who's creating the mistaken inference.

I disagree.  Dana is linking to a story that has no particular relevance to dKos (much like a Bills-Jets game), and summarizing it in a deliberately vague way in order to encourage people to misunderstand it and to think it's about something that is relevant to dKos.  That's exactly what my hypothetical Buffalo diary would do, too.

Again, is anyone actually posting diaries like this, in which the diarist deliberately tries to get people to believe something that the diarist knows to be false?  Seems like a total strawman to me.
