  •  My family members who served (11+ / 0-)

Don't want to hear about it - didn't care about the horror inflicted on Abeer... one got pissed when I posted a remembrance on what would have been her fifteenth birthday. Another was furious that I sent an email with pictures of the torture (the kids could have seen it!!!) and who am I to question our leaders anyway.

Their attitude is that the military protects us and we have no right to question them.

So don't be surprised if some take offense.

    •  I am so sorry that your family reacts like that. (7+ / 0-)

It has to be hard on you, not to have their support or even their understanding of your feelings and views.

My own family and friends would understand me sending this letter on to them.  While they support our troops and know full well how I feel, they themselves know that what we have done is wrong, and would love to see our men and woman come home.

If any of them should take offense, I would feel sorry for them, that they can't understand the anguish of a Mom who loves her son, and wants someone to answer for the mess he was sent into.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, then you've got an electrical problem.

In-laws couldn't separate the fact that we cared about what the people in the military were being falsely led into, from the idiots that many of them plus the Supremes chose in 2000.

3rd party: you are not alone in these family rows. Stay strong!
Greg, please let the woman who wrote the letter to you, know we admire her courage, and are so sorry this country damaged her son in such an irresponsible way. It's bad enough when the cause is just, when it is tainted with corruption & fear and rationalized under the guise of command, it is just sick and unjustified.

We are ashamed to be a part of this, although it is not with our permission.  Hope her son can shake off the effects of the mistreatment he suffered.
