This recount is a real weight off my mind. A feeling that Kerry conceded too soon has been eating at me ever since November 3rd. At least this way, we'll know for sure.

We have GOT to get a nationwide, standardized system of direct elections in place in this country. If every person's vote counted equally, it would be much more difficult for Republicans to manipulate a significant segment of the vote, and depressed liberals in red states and lazy liberals in blue states would be more motivated to vote.

Forget Florida and Ohio! What's so goddamn special about them? The presidential elections place such bizarre significance on Iowa and New Hampshire, then Florida and Ohio. My granola-munching, mountaintop-hut-dwelling dad in Washington should have just as much say about who's president as some Ohio soybean farmer.

And how did right-wing sycophants like Blackwell and Harris get in charge of administrating elections? Clearly there ought to be some legal review of their actions. Some corporal punishment, at the very least. (I recommend fifty lashes, then a nice brisk rubdown with rock salt.) Instead they get kicked up to some nice juicy position as a thank-you.

Maybe we should get the populace of Switzerland to come to the U.S. once every four years to administrate the election.
