  •  I had an interesting experience (12+ / 0-)

last week that has left me thinking more deeply about what I wish for.

Geoffrey Canada, founder of the Harlem Children's Zone was in town to give a speech. I was one of 1,000 lucky people that got to hear him.

He said so many powerful things - I really wish it was on videotape so I could go back and recall it all. But one thing stood out and has been gnawing in my brain.

He said that we can't wait for anyone else to do something to save our children. His example was the people in New Orleans who assumed that their government would care enough to come and save them. Didn't happen.

So if we want something better for our children, we just have to buckle down and find a way to get it done ourselves.

I think there's alot of truth there. But there's also a part of me that says it shouldn't have to be that way. I want a government that cares about ALL of the children. And I want to keep working to make that one happen as well.
