According to InfoPlease, citing figures from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, there were 2,208,000 weddings in the U.S. last year: 2,208,000 x $17,500 = $38,648,000,000. For the purposes of comparison, that amount is more than the total budgets of the National Science Foundation ($6,490,400,000) and the National Institutes of Health ($29,312,311,000) for the current fiscal year combined.
