  •  "suck more out of society than we could put back" (9+ / 0-)

This is the kind of logic so few people can master.  It might seem cold to some but it is actually deeply humane.

I look around at the rapidly filling world.  We must begin to think about the earth, it's capacity, and our responsibility for making choices that do not use up more than we replenish.

Thank you so much for your beautiful letter.

when one such as I who has a severely disabled daughter reads it.

We had no idea the disability that our daughter would come to the world with .. yet here we are ....

We do our best, but still do rely on some programs to help with some things, like diapers for our almost 7 year old girl.  We are ever thankful for such programs .. and to imply that people like us are 'sucking from society more than we can put back' is a bit crass.

I do not know that my wife would have chosen abortion had she known what our girl would be born with, nor would I condemn her or any other woman for making that very hard decision.

I do know that our daughter is a blessing who has allowed her once extremely cynical father to see the good in people, and who's smile I cannot imagine living without.

I thank the diarist for sharing such a personal story - especially one so well written.

We can admire two families who make very different decisions without judging either.

I'm sorry if my language made it seem as if I would criticize your decision.
