  •  This would leave NY with 2 Republicans (6+ / 0-)

..in congress: Peter King, NY-03 and Christopher Lee, NY-26.

And King might quit to try for the U.S. Senate in 2010.

Can you imagine if the entire New York delegation goes Democratic? That's incredible..

...after Chris Shays lost in CT-04 last year. "Crazy" just doesn't play well in the Northeast, which is what the republican party seems to be selling these days.

        •  Only if we exclude the Senate (0+ / 0-)

Where Judd Gregg, Olympia Snowe, and Susan Collins remain the last holdouts. I wonder if they ever thought they'd be in the position they're in now when they first ran for office...

          •  Gregg's retiring, and Snowe and Collins (0+ / 0-)

aren't "real" Republicans according to talk radio, right-wing blogs and Fox talking heads. There's of course speculation that Snowe might not even remain a RINO for too much longer, although that's really pure speculation for now.

      •  OT, watch out for Republicans converting to( D) (4+ / 0-)

Just because elections are trending Democratic, it doesn't mean true Democrats are winning.

Watch out for DINOs, and esp. for opportunists.

They are infiltrating the Democratic Party.

We should have been infiltrating the Republican Party.

And if Ben Nelson wants to join the Republican Party I hope no one would try and stop him.

            1. don't try to be the democratic version of Club for growth
            1. in 2008. the most conservative democrat in the Senate was still more progressive than the most progressive Republican. That says enough.

            •  Not bullshit at all (0+ / 0-)

I'll trade Ben Nelson for Olympia Snowe any day of the week. And it's not simply a matter of votes. Joe Lieberman had a fairly liberal voting record but was such a pain in the ass that he he pushed himself out of the Democratic party. Nelson has been in that territory lately.

It's fricking NEBRASKA. You can't compare Nebraska with Maine. We should be grateful to even have a senator in these parts of the country.

Besides, Nelson's voting record in 2008 was better than Snowe's!

He's been a major pain in the ass lately, not just for his votes but his comments. Those are unnecessary and unwanted.

if you like that one beter. Because the alternative for NELSON would be a GOPer with an even worse record.

Landrieu, Pryor, Blanche Lincoln are similarly predisposed to make stupid votes but they're smart enough to keep their mouths shut. In the end you have to assess whether someone is an asset or a liability. Or just an ass.

Hopefully Nelson can keep himself in column A with wandering over to column B.

I'm with Frederik on this one - it really doesn't make sense to throw someone out for someone even more conservative just because of rhetoric. Words do matter, but actions matter more.

because that part of Long Island trends Republican.  We have a real chance with Christopher Lee who is a one-term congressman.  (The Republican party has highlighted his seat as a 'must win' and is devoting a significant amount of money to his campaign.

Plus, it's great to have this fight NOW, so there will be more resources for picking off Lee & King.

If we get a Dem, he/she has close to 18 months to make an impression.

Wonder if the mayor of Plattsburg is a Democrat.
