  •  His office was polite to me. (5+ / 0-)

...when I called about the same issue.

It probably helped that I introduced myself as "A constituent, living in Brighton."  (= someone who can vote for him) rather than "a citizen" (= someone who most likely doesn't vote for him.)

Having spoken at length with my state rep, I can state for a fact that these people don't care about contacts from people outside their districts.

for members of Congress to accept calls from voters outside their district when they serve on a key decision-making committee where a critical legislative issue is being reviewed.

I've been in Congressional offices and Senate Offices and know of no representive who "records" any messages from someone outside the state.

I say "records" because there is actually someone who sits at the phone with what is basically a scorecard on a particular piece of legislation.  The check-mark only goes on the scorecard if the caller is a resident.

They might be nice with you if you are an out-of-stater but your opinion will NOT be recorded.

I understand that some think I am attacking Slink but she of all people at the site should know logistically how this works.

roberts and alito happened?  they took all of our phone calls and kept a tab.  diarists at this site mobilized people to make the calls, write the letters, send the faxes.  this has happened with other issues too.  slink knows this, probably first hand, and she is trying to build a similar campaign.  people like you shouting down someone who is trying to make a difference on an important issue that effects all of us simply with the argument of protocol is reinforcing a beltway mentality.  to me this is very disturbing.  if we followed your model we would not be reading and writing at dailykos.  we'd be happy enough to read our local newspapers and go home and watch news on television.
