  •  Yoshimi's comments on calling (4+ / 0-)

your representatives (and not those out of state) are spot on. You don't have to like it, but it's true. His point about organizing others in the community to try and get a meeting with your representatives is a good one, too. Yoshimi is trying to help you and steer you into a more effective direction.

I am friends with legislative Senate aides on health care issues, and all of them would tell you that the office doesn't pay attention to anything that doesn't come from their state. A House member may pay attention to people who live outside his/her district but within the state, if he/she is looking at a future statewide run.

I have to say that you've hit on one of my pet peeves about many liberals who want Democratic representatives to fight the good fight but won't call their Republican representatives.

If a member of the senate is on a committee that determines the makeup of a bill that goes before the senate, that senator is making decisions for me.

Yeah, and your senator is making decisions for you, so call your senator.

I told her not to tell me to contact my senators, because they were both republicans and, because they were not on that ocmmittee [sic].

        Also, from Cassandra's comments:

I feel sincerely sorry for you that you have no Senators, but, in a way neither do I.  My senators are both republicans - Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander.

It looks to me like Cassandra didn't contact the senators who actually represent him/her, because they're both Republicans.

If this isn't the case, Cassandra, please indicate as such.
