People need conspiracy theories because accepting the role that pure blind chance plays in our live is just too frightening - and there is a bit of such thinking in your diary, altho I hope you won't be booted.

Religion is a conspiracy theory in this sense. God is good but there's a load of misery in the world. Why? Original sin? The devil? Who wants to admit that viruses and fungi have as much right to be here as we do? That the whole billion year long evolution of DNA-based life is a gigantic process of which we are a small and transient episode?

The same logic applies to your "seminal" theory - the JFK assassination. Who wants to admit that one asshole could kill Kennedy and precipitate the Viet Nam war and the whole sorry history of rightwing ascendancy? Yeah, but all it took was Oswald and a cheap rifle. No great brains were needed.

The same goes for 9-11. Who wants to admit that Mohammad Atta got a crazy idea, managed to convince 19 suckers to go along, got a little funding from Bin Laden and that was it? The fact that the Bush crowd were complacent and smug prior to 9-11 does not mean they were conspiring anything. Sure, the Clinton people warned them that Bin Laden was a real danger but the fact that they didn't take a warning doesn't mean any more than that the Bushies were stupid and condescending, and we know that to be true.

...Allah must have been holding their hands while they were flying the big planes to their targets. Especially on that approach to the Pentagon.

contribution is good to keep in mind.

I note that it often comes up when valid forensic evidencde is presented.

I note also that the 9/11 commission gave the American people a conspiracy story that seems to appeal to people who, I suppose NEED the very same reassurances you describe.

People need conspiracy theories because accepting the role that pure blind chance plays in our live is just too frightening -

At what point does this not apply to the nation as a whole.

And what is the psychological explanation for the attituce of DL, Arken and friends who just can't wait for the teacher to get back and catch Eddie in the act doing the spitwad thing.

The sheer ecstacy they display in parodying stupid Eddie and stupid Eddie's friends.  Why, the even turn to horror of 9/11 into a Jenga joke!

Such restraint and mental health among the defenders of the "official" narrative show!

      •  Restraint indeed (0+ / 0-)

Calling the scientific consensus an "official narrative" shows an incredible amount of restraint.  The same kind of restraint that makes evolution "just a theory."

With such a cautious attitude to accepting reality, it's a miracle believers can climb out of bed in the morning, lest the ground be missing.

that the events we are talking about are not the result of random cirsumstance. Planes did not materialize out of thin air in Manhattan.

The same may be said of the events of November 22, 1963. Particles of lead and copper did not assemble themselves into jacketed bullets to put out the life of John F. Kennedy.

These tragedies occured through human actions. The official investigations of these events, of the participants and their associates, of timelines, of capabilities and resources, of the forensics attendant upon the initial examination of the facts all have holes in them. Holes big enough to drive a truck through.

Because significant questions remain, some honest people will continue to ask them.
