and no one is posting similar videos of european, arab, australian, japanese teenagers. Do you have any doubt that you could find similar "discourse" in just about every country on the face of the planet. And yet once again it's the jew among nations that is singled out on dailykos.

No one is denying that these kids are idiots, no one is denying that they represent a serious problem. But the problem is no more serious in Israel than it is in France or Egypt or South Korea or the US.

What's absolutely obvious is that the diarists go out of their way to imply (if not explicitly declare) that these kids represent the views of the Israeli society. It's yet another thinly-veiled attempt to demonize Israel and you know that as well as I do.

    •  Then dig it out and post it! (6+ / 0-)

These are in one form or another American kids for the most part.   They are us.

It makes you very, very uncomfortable to have to face this kind of stuff so openly.  Blumenthal didn't "infiltrate" their group, he just asked them a question.  And they loudly and proudly answered.

Instead of hand wringing here...why not work to change this kind of attitude?

Sweeping it under the rug rather than confronting it serves no one.    Oh and excusing it as "drunken kids" also is denying it.   When my kids have even neared this kind of language and attitude, they've gotten their little rears handed to them, drunk or not.

than digging out the videos of racists from all over the world and posting them here does not change the hypocritical, deceptive and dishonest objectives of those who spend their empty lives trying to single out and demonize Israel.

Oh and no one is "excusing it as drunken kids", nice straw man. The point that I and others are making is that diarists are desperately trying to imply that these cretins represent the entire Israel.

        •  Just because you repeat does not make it so. (3+ / 0-)

As has been pointed out, anytime there is a vid of right-wing racists spouting off stuff like this, Americans,( aren't we all?) it hits Kos and the blogosphere.

I am positive that the disgusting Chavs and Tobs and any BNP idiot (but not so marginal these days) in the U.K. are not spared because it reflects badly on them and makes the conservatives their squirm.

This vid has been called "hate speech" by users here...but not in the way one would think.  The "hate speech" was the guy who took the vid, not the actual utterers of said hate speech.

should be condemned, as should the biased selectivity of the video-maker and those who post it repeatedly.

            •  You know..I don't even care about the bias. (2+ / 0-)

And this is why.   Every little clip of anyone remotely Arab or Muslim will play on an endless loop across the blogosphere, or at least referenced..the "Palestinians danced over 9/11!!!!" clips.  Never mind what actually happened.

Americans rarely get to see "the other side" of the coin.   The "Muslims behaving badly" will hit CNN.   This won't.

This one time "normal" kids, not the settlers who almost everyone here agress are nuts or extremists, spout something off in public and now, well it's just wrong!

      •  the implication of the video (2+ / 0-)

is that young American Jews are being raised to be unthinking unyielding supporters of Israel, as you quoted in the filmmaker's response.  and the implication of that is that American Jews have questionable loyalty, etc, etc.  and while there certainly are unthinking elements, and they tend to be the most vocal,  the irony is that nobody navel-gazes more about Israel than young American Jews.  the fact though is that for all the Jewish pro-Palestinian peace activists out there, most of us prefer to do our deepest questioning and criticism in private.

        •  The question isn't one of loyalty to the US (1+ / 0-)

At least not for me. I am supremely disloyal to the American Empire. Those who criticize American Zionists for being disloyal to the US are anti-Semitic jackasses who don't understand quite how valuable Israel is to the the US ruling class. I don't doubt for a second that the kids in this video have cheered on every misconceived US military adventure in their lifetimes.

What is objectionable here is the disloyalty to humanity implicit in their loyalty to both teh US and Israel. It is the macho, racist, know-nothing contempt for anybody who gets in their way that condemns much of the world to living in squalor and fear of the security forces of the US empire and its various junior partners.

born to a Jewish mathematician from a Boston slum, and an ex-Catholic civil rights activist who converted, you know, I was taught lessons about respect for people of all colors and creeds that I'm not sure everyone else learned.

But now that my peers are adults, there's no way I can reach out and suggest changes in their outlook. Hell, I couldn't even as a child, so 'al ahat kama v'kama - all the more so would it be difficult now! To say nothing of people of the older generations, who regardless of my personal feelings about, I owe some deference. Not only do they tend to be more set in their ways, there's no vaguely respectful way to bring it up in discussion.

    •  well (6+ / 0-)

I don't know that. As others have pointed out, nobody objected to videos of white southerners making racist comments about Obama being aired. Only an idiot or someone who was already a bigot would have taken those videos and said, "well, this means that all southerners are racist."

Of course you could find kids like this in any country. And as I said, I wouldn't object to airing videos from other country. So your objection is that you think this video is an attempt to represent the views of Israeli society and to "demonize" Israel, which is a past-time at dkos. I won't change your mind, but I don't quite understand why nationalists get so pissy when bad things are shown about their nations.

Oh, and I don't think you'd object at all to airing videos of Arab kids making racist or anti-semitic comments. In fact, I think you'd herald it as deeply disturbing proof that Arabs are....etc etc etc.

How does a video of ignorant Americans in Israel reflect on Israel?

      •  it does not... (0+ / 0-)

the videos of pro-Obama, pro-two state solution Israelis, even the videos of Israelis who respectfully disagree with Obama's views and policies reflect on Israel.

Unfortunately Max Blumenthals is not interested in shooting these videos truly reflecting the views in the Israeli society and his dailykos supporters would not post these videos here even if they existed.

I happen to like Max, and his videos, he's gotten pretty good at capturing right wingers in all their mouthy glory.
I can't believe the girl who is sitting at a bar in Israel, allegedly a poli-sci major, and doesn't know who Netanyahu is- I think it reflects very badly on the American education system.

          •  Well actually (0+ / 0-)
