    My problem with these bailouts has nothing to do with ideology that government shouldn't interfere.  My problem has more to do with the fact that the government doesn't know how to intervene effectively.

    GM has proven their business model no longer works.  Why, all of a sudden, is a massive influx of taxpayer dollars going to change that equation?

    It's not, and the end result is that the GM bailout will wind up as throwing good money after bad.  Companies who can no longer make a profit should be allowed and encouraged to go out of business.

    What's next (rhetorical question ahead)?  Will congress pass legislation requiring Americans to buy automobiles from GM and Chrysler?  I don't think they will.  I don't even think anyone wants that to happen.  But that's the ONLY way this "investment" will ever pay off.
