  •  Virginia--Home of the Endless Campaign. (1+ / 0-)

In the home of endless Civil War battling political battles can seem as endless as all that marching back and forth to bloodletting.

Let's see, in Fairfax the county Chairman went to Congress so his seat, after that long campaign starting last summer, had an election won by a Democratic County Supervisor so then there had to be a special election a few weeks on to fill that post. Now this.

The endless roadside campaign signs (technically illegal in the state rights of way) and campaign trash do get wearing and also begin to raise questions about where all those donations go--ultimately tree cutters we can presume. With the lead up to the joy of November's win, those specials and now the governor's race starting we seemed to go into the perpetual campaign!

    FYI non-Virginians:

Virginia does not register by party and great efforts are expended reading various tea leaves to try to establish party affiliation among the less openly partisan population in order to more precisely target campaigns.

We have staggered national and state office election years. That is the major reason for the "endless campaign" as every year is an election year! That actually helps some shady and slippery characters get into local and state office down in Richmond. Turn out and interest in that state Senate or House of Delegates race in the year after the U.S. House race can be at the trace level.

I'd support any effort to synchronize those national and state elections!
