It's the facts in front of us. Nobody expects Obama or the Democrat-controlled congress to get this done tomorrow. They expect concrete actions to move this forward so there can be concrete action in a year or so.

What just happened in New York? The Dems had control of the senate for 5 months. They farted around. Now gay marriage is pretty dead in the state of New York for the forseeable future.

Until Obama does something tangible for the GLBT community, beyond pretty speeches, he is just "All-Talk Barack"

Executive Order can stop the policy in the military.  It's easy.  Just no will.

will happen, Miss Cleo? I'm not seeing you cite any evidence to the contrary, just condescension.

But I do know shit ain't gonna happen until you lay the groundwork for it. Starting with talking to congress, starting with a major policy speech, starting with town meetings, starting with a moratorium on future firings. Then we can see some concrete action in 2 years.

Handwritten notes to people who are STILL fired don't do shit. The above actions would get the ball rolling.

Nice words and speeches? Nothing concrete like, meeting with congress on the issue, telling the Pentagon at least NOT to adamantly deny talks are going on, town hall meetings, a tour of gay and straight military personnel to inform the public, an ad campaign, a moratorium on future firings until this is resolved, a major policy speech on GLBT rights with a timeline for action, you mean not watering down whitehouse.gov and removing the words REPEAL until Rachel Maddow shamed them into putting it back? You mean concrete things like that or do you mean simply vague, bullshit niceties?

That all is required is for him to say something. this is why this is emotions based discussions versus facts. We are looking for tangible facts. They are looking for emotional validation. So long as they get that emotional validation- then it trumps all else that's happening. I have seen this repeatedly with Obama. It's not healthy, but it's what people do.
