  •  he assumed first that I'm straight (0+ / 0-)

and second that the schedule he outlines above is sufficient to get DADT repeal legislation through Congress and signed.

    •  Obama has to do whatever is expedient. (4+ / 0-)

That's beside the point. The problem is that we have Gates and Congress kicking the can down the road to 2012. By then, there will be another excuse. Where does it all end?

      •  You keep calling pressing policy (0+ / 0-)

needs "excuses".  That's insulting to all the other people who's needs are being met by these other policies.

I would think the progressive blogosphere would be more empathetic to the needs of everyone.

        •  I'm not insulting anyone. (2+ / 0-)

I'm saying that gay rights have to be treated equally just like any other policy. What part of the Constitution don't you understand?

          •  So Gitmo should have gone after DADT? (0+ / 0-)

If we're going to go with Constitutional issues ahead of all others, then is GITMO second?  Or am I mistaken and you actually mean that Constitutional issues go after pressing economic issues and health care reform?

I'm not getting a sense of your priorities here except a general complaint that this one isn't being taken care of early enough in your opinion.

            •  There you go again. (1+ / 0-)

Making shit up. Let me try again -- no means no. No, we are not going to go to the back of the bus. The Constitution comes first. Obama took an oath of office to defend the Constitution, not to cater to this interest group or that interest group. Everything else will follow.

Why is this so hard for you to grasp? Obama does not have 5 people working for him. He has thousands working in his administration. There is indeed someone who can spearhead this issue and get it going, CONCURRENTLY with closing GITMO.

Gosh, why did Obama deal with swine flu, he had so much to do...

Until Obama does something tangible for the GLBT community, beyond pretty speeches, he is just "All-Talk Barack"

    •  If you're gay (0+ / 0-)

then you really are self-loathing. Gee, I'm not as important as GM or lower fuel emissions. I'll just wait years for there to be any concrete action on this that will even lead to real action in 3,4, 8 years. Or, it can be a repeat of the Clinton admin, where many of the promises went unkept. Except Clinton made much more modest promises in this area than Obama.

      •  Funny, I see saving GM (0+ / 0-)

and lower emissions as for me too.

        But I'm a long-term, big-picture kinda dragon.

false choices. Either he does x or y. If he does x, then he can no do y. The question becomes- why are ou creating the false choice. If you are gay- that's self loathing because there is no way you would be making up such false choices unless you already are defaulting your own rights of equality as not an issue at all. Notice wha tyou are doing. In each isuse being discussed- you always default to it being  more important than equality. You are proving the point of the posters

          •  I think that you are the ones engaging in (0+ / 0-)

falsehoods.  My argument is simple: we need to get this done right and done once.  I would rather have the President and Congress' full attention to the matter rather than being split on other issues.  Allowing issues to become conflated is exactly how the GOP will try to stymie this, and you're playing directly into their hands.

Also, fuck you for calling me self-loathing.  You don't get to make that call.

            •  That's a matter for debate. (1+ / 0-)

But that is not what Congress is doing. They are not getting this done right and done once -- they are not acting at all.

to those who understand politics. The problem is that the same behaviors that are clear representations of what would be understood to be occurring with anyone else is here, because it's Obama, being treated as if it is not clear. In other words, the reasonable doubt that all politicians place into their words are being used here to say that we have no idea what's going on. It's fundamentally dishonest since he's doing what every other politician does when he's punting on an issue. Gibbs for weeks now has been asked questioned on this issue, and has deflected. It's what politicians do when they punt. They will never say I am doing this because I am punting. Yet, the true believers here would require that sort of proof rather than evidence of what is actually happening as proof. That's why these conversation are pointless. They are true believers. They are not looking at Obama as a policiian. So, they ae not willing to read the political language as political except when it suits them, and they will say in the same breathe- you know he's a brilliant politician as you point out to them yes but this political language he is using is punting the issue.
