Deeds is good on everything except guns

Deeds also supported the odious Marshall-Newman amendment; please don't suggest that he's good on "everything except guns".

Would you join a whites-only country club? Then would you marry in the United States?

      Sorry. I stand corrected.

He's good on labor issues, at least.

If I throw a cat on the interstate, knowing that the cat's likely to get hit by an oncoming car, I'm responsible for that action even if I didn't actually hit the cat myself.

He voted to put the amendment on the ballot knowing full well that it'd pass.  That's a vote for it.

        •  It's not the same. (0+ / 0-)

I'd not have voted the same way, but being in Oregon, where we also have legislative referrals that we vote on, I know how this works.  We had three Republican state legislators that I recall being defeated by radical primary challengers after they had voted to put a tax increase on the ballot that they opposed actually implementing.

A better argument is that civil rights aren't something we should vote up or down on.  That's why I wouldn't have voted for it.  But I can see why Douglas' argument still wins.  Direct democracy is pretty popular.

Yes, I agree.  Creigh Deeds has never allowed his own marriage to be put to a vote, but he sold out many Virginians with his homophobic double standard.

I was careful to say that he "supported" the amendment, not that he "voted for" it.  I believe that his actions were in support of the amendment -- he acted in a deliberate way that helped facilitate its passage.
