  •  I'm in Michigan... (7+ / 0-)

and I have been out of work for close to two years now and I still haven't found anything.  I've gotten close to getting a job, but with the thousands and thousands of other people I am in competition with, they usually tend to pick the person with the most experience and most impressive resume.
Anyway, my local TV news breaks-down the unemployment rates county by county every month when the new rates are released, and let me tell you, the county I live in is already close to 20% unemployment and climbing.  And those rates don't even really reflect everything that's going on here because it doesn't even count someone like me who isn't eligible for unemployment.  To put it quite bluntly, things suck here.

there are millions of people just like you out there.

So long as you say that you haven't interviewed or sent in an application in the last month, you're not included.

And one of the quirks of this recession is that it's middle aged folks being forced out, and they are unable to find a job like they had before.

They either drop out of the numbers by getting stuffed in your category, or find part time work to pay the bills, and aren't included in the out of work.

And now wages are starting to plummet.

We're all in for a hell of a summer.

I know people have lots of reasons for staying in what seem to be unpleasant situations, but I'm especially curious about unemployed people who stay in Michigan. The jobs situation there just sounds so, so desperate. And the weather there sounds very very hard. Why not move where its at least easier to live? Or has it become a case of its financially impossible to move?

for now anyway.  My house won't sell in the current market for what's even owed, so I am just biding my time waiting for things to improve and hoping that it's sooner than later.
