      I don't know what the facts are in this matter, but it's hard to believe he was a captain. Hell, JFK was a PT-boat captain. It's pretty rare for slack-jawed losers like von Brunn to be given positions of responsibility, although I suppose it's not impossible.

        it's easy to believe.  They needed a lot of PT boat captains during WW II, and a PT boat captain is usually a Lieutenant or close rank.  PT boats were considered expendable, because they were easy to build, and the weapons they carried were mostly single use weapons (torpedoes and depth charges, with a machine gun or two to back them up), so it wasn't a major level or responsibility.
