classrooms, plus whatever history or civics they are taught is overridden by their parents, their churches, and the rightwing noise machine, especially here in the south.

an AFN commentator discussing the Colonial period of the US made the point that the US is founded on Christian doctrines and the Constitution is a Christian document. Same old stuff.

But then he made the comment that Free Masons were a pseudo religion and anti-Christian and that the Founding Fathers had to root Masonic influences out of the early government. Now not counting the number of Patriots who were Masons also, even today, many fundamentalist preachers and ministers are Masons, judging from the greeting rituals and such. So what gives? Are Masons a Fifth Column in the Christian movement? Are they the next threat behind the Muslims. as this guy seemed to equate both Islam and Masonry with pseudo-religions obsessed with destroying the True Faith.

      •  I'm surprised you could listen to that! (1+ / 0-)

        My hat's off to you!
As far as I know (and I'm not a Mason, I'm married to one) the Masons are not a religion and they would accept any member who believed in God, as well as meeting their other requirements.  This would include Jews and Muslims.  They do not try to influence people's relation to God.  They do encourage people to do things and behave in certain ways because it is the right thing to do.  Perhaps that is what gets the AFR folks so worked up, that people would try to do the right thing just because.

Watch this space. Something brilliant will come to me soon, I'm sure.
