you accept my assertion that non-white status for Jews is promoted mostly by people who are labled as non-white. In that case I think it's about deliberately muddying questions around status and race (not a bad idea if you ask me) which has the intention of not only confusing the status of Jews but raising the status of other non-whites.

(The premises behind status and race are bullshit to begin with, of course. But I'm trying to see why people would want Jews to non-white.)

People may disagree with this idea that Jews as non-whites comes primarily from non-whites.

I think America as a Christian nation claim can have the effect of telling non-Christians they don't matter, but in this case it's people asserting a majority privilege. So in some sense it's asserted from the top down (the majority claiming superior rights) rather than the bottom up (discriminated-against people asserting their similarity to a group that has access to white privilege).

I ask, "How would you react to someone who called America a White nation?" After all, the Founders were all white, and the majority of the populace is white. It's a reductio ad absurdum that exposes the flaws in the "Christian nation" argument (but not to extremists like Pat Buchanan who really believe we are a White nation).

People labeled as non-white tend to think of Jews as white, not as a way of raising Jews' status, but as a way of saying, "you're not a real minority (ie. one of "us")". It's exclusionary.
