    and the conclusion was good:

In sum, I don't care what race you consider Jews to be, if any, as long as you're consistent and show at least some knowledge and understanding of the complex history and social dynamics of the Jewish people.

But I didn't have any problem with what Coates wrote in the first place either:

For what it's worth, on a very visceral level, what I see is a bunch of drunk racist white kids, doing what I'd expect a bunch of drunk racist white kids to do. I don't really have "higher expectations" because of the particulars of the Jewish experience, anymore than I have "higher expectations" for  Irish-Americans due to the oppresive immigrant experience of their ancestors. Nor, when it comes to, say, homophobia or nativism, do I have "higher expectations" for blacks because of segregation and Jim Crow. (Though I do have higher hopes, mostly because I'm black and I want us to represent.)

It sounds about right to me.  (As is Coates's take on Blumenthal's stupid video: he's trying to sell us a bunch of LI Republicans as either Israel or the vast bulk of Jewish-Americans and Coates isn't buying.)

      •  As far as I know, he is Jewish (1+ / 0-)

(If your comment was meant ironically, I apologize.) His movie seems to be misleading, because it presents drunk racist Jews without mentioning that most Jews (including most Zionists) voted for Obama.

Like the diarist, I think he's Jewish.  It seems like a botched way of trying to shame Israel into ending the occupation.  The fact still remains that in the video the people are (1) Americans (2) outside the mainstream of Jewish-American opinion, so Blumenthal is not making a coherent point.
