  •  To the neocons this is just a game (5+ / 0-)

What's actually happening in Iran is but a chess move in the war-loving fevered minds of the wingers.  They love the Parker Brothers game of RISK of it all. Never mind that it involves real people putting their real lives at risk to enact real change for themselves.  This is merely armchair travel for the warmonger. It's deeply disgusting.

    •  I wish I could agree. There are plenty of ... (6+ / 0-)

...armchair generals in the world. But Daniel Pipes and Michael Ledeen and others of their ilk have actually had a major impact on policy. It is not just a game to them. They are serious, they are still (somewhat) influential, and their ideas are exceedingly toxic, so much so that they have poisoned the minds of people whose views of foreign policy were once and occasionally still are considerably more enlightened than theirs.

Some people would be better off not reading diaries they comment on, since they already have all the answers.

      •  I'm not saying.. (0+ / 0-)

that these people aren't influential in policy past and present.  Indeed, I have been very concerned about the people who are advising our current administration on Iran.  The stakes have never been higher, particularly with a highly stressed out Israel.  My comment about the armchair traveler is aimed at the people who are feeding off the neocon talking point tit.  The crazy folks over at Freeperville and Red State are gaming this with great enthusiasm.  The Armageddon contingent is pushing for out and out conflagration and loving every minute of the bloodshed.  I took a stroll over there this afternoon and had to have a stiff drink afterward.
