We have a State Dept. employee in the family, who has been in every continent since Reagan, who will be working with Amb. Holbrooke soon in the Afghan-Pakistan super "embassy" role.

So what to make of this report the Dennis Ross is coming home and will be working the White House?

Dennis Ross, who most recently served as a special State Department envoy to Iran, will abruptly be relieved of his duties, sources in Washington told Haaretz. An official announcement is expected in the coming days.

The Obama administration will announce that Ross has been reassigned to another position in the White House. In his new post, the former Mideast peace envoy under President Bill Clinton will deal primarily with regional issues related to the peace process.

I am not endorsing some of the reasons they sight for why he is coming home. Marc Ambinderhas responses to the Haaretz speculation.

And the White House is behind Ross:

Separately, Burton defended President Obama's peace envoy to the Mideast, Dennis Ross, who Israeli media reported Monday is on the outs and will be reassigned. Sources who spoke with Ha'aretz newspaper suggested that Ross' Jewish roots and strong sources with the Israeli government made him unacceptable to Ahmadinejad.

The president "continues to have confidence in him moving forward," Burton said of Ross, noting that "one of the things that Dennis Ross proposed actually was pursing strategic objectives with Iran while at the same time pursuing peace between Israel and Palestine, both on two tracks but at the same time."

Just a question, wondering if this is a way to respond to the elections in Iran with a very neat package, in the Israeli press. Without the Beach Boy songs.

reason to expect him to act as an honest broker.

      •  We don't have an embassy there (0+ / 0-)

I am listening to the state department presser and the non-denial denial of him moving. I don't think any talks at any level had been happening, or were expected to be happening, in Iran. He had a large portfolio, I thought.

Not an honest broker? Since he was Bubba Clinton's I/P negotiator?
