    why health insurance had to be tied to employment.  It makes no sense to me.  Health care is a social issue, not a labor-related issue.

      that the unions were in favor of tying insurance to employment in order to get more people to join the union. It looked good for them to be the provider of the bennies through their bargaining.

      I don't know if that is true.

        who advocated for it, outdoing each other to dangle shiny healthcare and retirement benefits to attract the best and the brightest in the post-war years.

        Once upon a time, employers actually wanted to retain their employees and loyalty was rewarded. Hard to imagine now, which is another reason that employment-based healthcare makes no sense whatsoever and hasn't for a long time.
