Obivously emergency cases get to see a psych immediately.
A year wait, which is really probably the worst-case scenario, would be for a new patient who, after seeing a general psychiatrist (time to appointment, a few weeks) would be waiting on a referral to a specialist, after which they'd probably have regular contact as usual. - And this would be of course be for a non-urgent case.

    •  thanks. In my experience a "non urgent" case (2+ / 0-)

Well, this would be in a case where the patient isn't on medicine - a new patient. They wouldn't usually be on meds if they weren't seeing someone on a regular basis already.

That said, if there's a crisis then there's of course a psych emergency ward that'll take you. And then you'd also be priority in line for whoever you're waiting for. It's strictly by necessity, so the 'worst case scenario' of a year (which I've never run into, but ..) would be for something like counseling, or perhaps something like a neuropsychiatrist for an ADHD or OCD patient who's not in trouble, but could use some help to be ever more functional.

This is all of course, strictly within the public option. If you're willing to pay a bit more, you can see a private practitioner essentially immediately. (Should be said though, all the best specialists are in public care, since all research hospitals are public)

people I know who have needed psych counseling have gotten it a lot sooner than 1 year, maybe 6 weeks. And, I think there is a level below psyciatrists/psycholoists- maybe something more belonging to the Kommun, that people can see rather quickly.
