      It seems that you feel that Brooklyn doesn't deserve to feel like a victim as long as you too are a victim.

        I am not a victim and neither is the diarist. But the diarist seems to take the attitude that only he and other African Americans has the moral authority to define what slavery is and is not and how and whether it can be used as a term. I find that excessive and wrong.

          Who said anything about authority?  Come on, we are liberals and we are actually supposed to be empathetic toward others and what might offend them.

          Frankly, I find most of the comments in this thread offensive.

            I did not say authority. I said moral authority. It means the right to say or proclaim something as backed up by some higher moral imperitive.

            I find most of the comments in this thread offensive.

            It seems to me that most of the comments are of the "you go!" variety.  The critical comments appear to be in the minority.
