    Cut it up into short logs, then crosscut the logs with a chainsaw or skilsaw or radial arm saw, into chunks an inch or two thick. These chunks can be resawn or busted up with a hammer.
    Store these pieces (by now, an inch or two cubed)in a burlap sack or bushel basket, something that will let air get to the wood. Let 'em sit for a couple months.
    What you now have is applewood chunks, to be soaked in water for a half hour and added to the smoker or BBQ for a great flavor!
