      But I think there are many, many more Arabs than Persians/Shiite Azeris/etc in the US.  And while Shiites are a minority of the Muslim Arabs in the US (as is true of Muslim Arabs and Muslims overall), I wouldn't be surprised if there are more pious Arab Shiites than pious Shiites from Iran.

      Many of the Iranians who've come to the US, especially the earlier waves of immigrants, were among the more cosmopolitan, secular middle and upper classes.  Arab Shiites, however, are more likely to come from Southern Lebanon or Southern Iraq.

      But who knows, I could be wrong.  It could be that having lived in Dearborn MI, among the biggest population of Shiites in the US, gives me a skewed perspective.
