  •  A Classic Democratic Failure (0+ / 0-)

That list of covered jurisdictions...not only includes many Southern states but also most of New York City, isolated parts of Michigan and South Dakota, and even some California counties.

I think nowhere does one find a more classic example of Democratic failure at progressivism than in the Voting Rights Act.  The list of counties is now decades out of date, and the Democrats continue to defend the status quo. Not a single county has been added since 1972, nor, as far as I know, has any Democrat ever proposed adding any counties since that date.

When the VRA came up for a vote in 2006, absolutely no effort was made to add any of the Florida counties where travesties were reported in 2000 and 2004, nor any of the Ohio counties were gross travesties were reported in 2004. Instead, the only "progress" the Dems achieved was to change its name from the "Voting Rights Act" to the "Rosa Park and Coretta Scott King Voting Rights Act."

From all the self-congratulatory rhetoric, you would  think the Democrats fought a hard and noble battle against and large and dedicated opposition in 2006, conveniently overlooking the fact that the House vote was 390 to 33. Not surprising, since there was "no there there" for Republicans to rally against, just the same old same old.
