  •  Public Enemies... (4+ / 0-)

In preparation for seeing Johnny Depp...since I'll probably get lost in looking at him rather than focusing on the story... ;-)

But seriously, the book Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34 by Bryan Burrough is a compilation of true stories of all the major depression-era criminals, including Pretty Boy Floyd, Machine Gun Kelly, Bonnie & Clyde (a story very different from the movie), and the Barker gang as well as how Hoover's FBI fumbled their way through the investigations.  The book reads like a novel, but is definitely non-fiction.  It tells what each of these famous criminals were doing on same day.  A great read!
