View Diary: DailyKos Community Standards: Ratings Abuse (417 comments)

Comment Preferences

  •  4 for many reasons; 1 for form of expression (none)
I agree with gong. There are many reasons why we would give a 4 to a commentator.

There is a strong impulse to rate 4 a comment when in the heat of a discussion you see that such a comment express what you have been trying to say in a better way; or that such a comment has captured your idea in a broader context giving it a more powerful effect than what you were thinking to write.

I agree that we should be careful about using 3--actually, there is no practical usage for this rating.

However, for 1 and 0, there is a lot, particularly when the expression is rude, and lacks respect.

I agree that we should not down rate a post because we disagree with the content. This is simply abuse, as this diary states.

But, there has been an increasing number of posts that are simply rude, and meant to hurt, and that really discourage participants to come back to Dkos.

I for one, have been frustrated with comments like those, and have made me questioned my dedication to this forum.

I wish someone would write about those posts that deserve censure because of its form.

Let's tell to the repug fascists that Jesus talked and did more about poverty than he ever did about sex. http://dennishidalgo.blogspot.com/
