  •  I like TU status (none)
Not because I'm some kind of a power freak or because I like troll-rating people into oblivion, though.

For me it's about site functionality.  As Hunter notes in his diary, every comment below a hidden comment is also hidden, and I find many great insights and good conversation under a troll-rated comment.  I like to keep seeing those.

Also, I am one of the few who do dig in to the "hidden comments" section to mod up unfairly hidden posts.  I try to do it at least every other day, if not daily.  It's a responsibility I take seriously.

    •  I hadn't thought of that. (none)
Before I got TU status I watched a post "disappeared" off a diary and didn't understand why. It was quite upsetting at the time because I felt a valid voice was squashed because they dared to disagree with the majority.

While I didn't agree with the opinion of the poster, I also didn't feel the post deserved to be "whacked"; it was a simply a different point of view, and in my opinion, legitimate.

I hadn't realized that a TU could save a post like that from fading into oblivion.

Thank you for pointing this out.

      •  Great! (none)
Will some brave soul please "undisappear" postive comments I made about Hillary Clinton as a potential candidate in 2008? A certain Kos "trustee" (who shall remain nameless) has great pleasure in rating any comment I make about her a zero.
        •  Merrily we troll along, troll along, troll along.. (none)
Need a link to your comment to untroll it.  Oh wait, it's disappeared!  Hmmm.  Conundrum alert!  How DOES one do this?  Search through all the disappeared ones?  Yeesh, sounds like a job for Sissy Spacek!
        •  hmmm.. can't find any disappeared comments (none)
I just searched through all the troll-rated "disappeared" comments and there is not a single one in there by you.  There was a LOT of other ooky stuff, though.  I don't think I'm going to do that again anytime soon! brb...I gotta go wash my hands.
    •  agree (none)
on the responsibilty part.  The symbolic issues/value around TU I find silly, and I wouldn't care one way or another if my TU went away, it wouldn't change anything really (except I wouldn't have to wade through the hidden comments every two or three days the way I now feel a obligation to at least check and make sure there's nothing there that doesn't belong).

But here's my take on it: personally I'm indifferent, but I have the status because other people took (and amazingly still take) the time/energy/moment of thought to rate some of my posts positively.  To simply say, this is pointless, is a bit of a diss on their expressions of their opinions, so, if the system is going to exist and people are going to judge that I should be in a status (TU) then I should take the responsibility end of it seriously.  That's the main reason I post on some threads that I'd just as easily prefer to leave alone, because there are occasions when I have some information or a different angle of vision on something that really can/does make the discussion broader, not because I want to see my handle showing up everywhere or beef up my mojo.  (I don't do tip jars, so...).
