    Frustrating, ain't it?

A few things you can do:  post at a time when not too many other people are posting.  Usually around midday, diaries are coming by as fast as one per minute.  Yuck.  Earlier or later in the day, things are a little better.  If you consistently post high-quality diaries, people will eventually get to know you, and know to read whatever you write.

If the diary took a lot of work, you can let people know about it by posting a comment on the current open thread.  This is known as "diary whoring", but is generally met with tolerance if your diary is really big and special.  As in, took hours to write.

(A note for largely everyone here: at the bottom of the diary list on the home page is a box for "Show [n] diaries".  Set this box for 50, if you haven't already, and you will see a brand-new site.  Diaries are visible for far longer; you can have conversations at a more leisurely pace.)

    •  Good advice...and I had an idea (none)
Being new, I don't want to come across as little-miss-Nancy-know-it-all...but I had a thought on fixing this.

Can there be subdivisions of diaries, so that a diary will stay alive in its own subdivision for a longer period of time?  For instance, there could be different categories for breaking news, elections/voter fraud, middle east issues..etc.

I know Kos has this set up for his diaries.  Can this system be incorporated for the rest of us?  Not only would this keep a diary "alive" for a lot longer, but I think it would also resolve the problem of multiple, multiple diaries on the same subject, especially in the "breaking news" category.

      •  I know it's being pondered. (none)
I don't know quite what options are being considered, but the fact that good diaries get lost so quickly is an ongoing concern, and has been for some time now.

Hopefully when things settle down we'll have some discussion threads about possible ideas, and some ideas from the programmers behind the site on what they think they could easily whip up.

What a super idea!  This would also allow members to look at only topics of interest to them.  I would love that!
