  •  Most of the people in Israeli jails (5+ / 0-)

are there illegally. Hundreds of them have never been charged or tried, and thousands more have been convicted without recieving due process or on the basis of evidence extracted by torture. Israeli officials have conceded to the use of torture in interrogations, which multiple human rights organisations have reported is "systematic" and "routine". Many Palestinian children have reported being victims of torture, most of them having been accused of nothing more than throwing stones.

This in contrast to Gilad Shalit, who was quite openly a member of an occupying army.
