    We don't like Ralph Nader here, but the guy single handedly invented Auto Safety. "Unsafe at any speed" was the book that did it.

    Probably hundreds of thousands of lives saved.

      that only had a large, padded bar in front of them.  So they wouldn't fall out of the seat easily.  No safety restraints of any kind.

      Yet, the rest of us wore seatbelts most of the time, mainly because our parents mandated such.

      The late 60s/early 70s was a weird time for car safety ideas in the public space.

      "So, please stay where you are. Don't move and don't panic. Don't take off your shoes! Jobs is on the way."
