    burrowing owl in flight.  Here's a California Towhee fledgling:

    chickadee - parent I think.  Our yard is full of them right now I know we had a nest in that spruce (front yard), and I think we had another in an orange tree out back.

      Can't quite decide from the photo?

      I've tried to capture burrowing owls in flight for a while. The one in the diary is my best to-date. I've enjoyed checking in on the owls at that spot but I suspect (and half-way hope) that they'll find a safer place to hang out than the side of the road.

        so my picture quality isn't all that goog unless I get lucky.

        Burrowing owls exhibit major site fidelity, don't readily relocate and aren't readily relocatable.  That is part of why they are on the threatened list.  Good luck with them, and to them.
